Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in Schools

Presented by Kristi Jackson

This 1-hour course is designed for presentation to whole school faculty and staff, perfect for a pre-service week PD, faculty meeting or Professional Development Periods. It focuses on LGBTQ+ identities and associated terms, challenges that these students face in our schools, their legal rights, and how we, as educators, can best support them in their academic success.

GSA Sponsor Training

Saturday, September 16th, 2017   9am-noon
LGBT Life Center, Norfolk

The GSA Sponsor Training & Summit hosted by the LGBT Life Center and presented by PRISM Youth Community in collaboration with PFLAG Hampton Roads welcomes ALL current and prospective GSA/LGBT+ Student Group Sponsors. Newbies and Veterans alike are invited to join us for a day of great information, fun, and collaboration!

Curriculum for this series is being developed by Kristi Jackson. Ms. Jackson has been an educator in the local community for more than 15 years. In addition, she has served as a lead curriculum writer and a professional development presenter in her current school division. She founded Hampton Roads PTK (Parenting Trans Kids), a support group for parents of transgender and gender non-conforming children, and she sponsors one of the area's largest and most active GSAs. Ms. Jackson currently serves as a commissioner on the Citizen's Unity Commission in Hampton, and she is an active volunteer and advocate with The LGBT Life Center of Hampton Roads. As the parent of a 16-yr old transgender son, she is experienced and passionate about advocating for the rights of the LGBT+ community and student population.

We look forward to sharing her experience and expertise with the Hampton Roads community and making our area a safe, accepting and inclusive community for all.
