PRISM

PRISM Youth Community was created in 2016 to address the unique and various needs of the Peninsula's LGBTQ+ youth. We provide activities, support, education and resources with the mission of helping make Hampton Roads a more accepting and inclusive environment where our kids and families can live, grow, belong and flourish. 


*LGBTQ+ refers to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning people. The "+" acknowledges that there are many additional identities related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity not included in this acronym such as intersex, agender, asexual, genderqueer, genderfluid, pansexual, and others.

What We Provide
  • Social Support
    Almost 80% of LGBT+ youth report experiencing some form of social isolation. Our goal is to provide opportunities for our members to connect with peers and community allies in meaningful ways to help them build a supportive network where they can belong, be themselves, have fun, and get help when they need it.

  • Community Education & Outreach
We are dedicated to reducing discrimination and violence against LGBT+ youth and promoting inclusive and accepting communities. We provide support through activities, community outreach, education and referrals to resources and services.  PRISM Youth program topics include gender identity gender expression and sexual orientation, educational rights, health and healthy relationships, and youth advocacy.   • Advocacy & Action
    We strive to live in a world where LGBTQ+ persons of all ages are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at school, at work and in the community. We partner with parents and families, youth leaders, educators, adult allies, and youth-serving organizations to advocate for policies and support causes and programs in the Hampton Roads and Peninsula area that share this vision.
